I took up writing short articles for various outlets after two of my professors recommended I use it as a way to force myself to consistently complete clear and concise thoughts on marketing and academia. Today I write mainly through these three outlets.
InDecision Blog – As the lead contributor for InDecision I've spent the last few years interviewing many professors and providing coverage of events for those who cannot attend and live commentary for those attending. For instance, my coverage of ACR 2013 got more views than the Malcolm Gladwell Key Note had attendants -- and all these views come mostly from people in our field as InDecision is an "inward" facing blog catering to academics and highly engaged practitioners. As a young researcher I've been honored to have received praise from senior faculty for contributing to the field in a meaningful and unique way. And possibly even more so, I've been honored by all the young researchers who have approached me at conferences to thank the staff and I for creating this online resource.
Huffington Post – I've used Huffington Post as an outlet to talk about marketing and consumer culture. My work here has been commented on and shared on by top psychology networks like Nudge Blog and SPSP. Additionally, I've had some pleasant personal achievements in which I've combined psychology with my consumer passions. My consumer identity story called "Who Plays Batman Matters" was Google's top "Batman" story during the massive Internet storm when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman and my favorite band praised my social identity analysis of their anthem "West Coast Winter."
